School Hosts German Convention

The annual convention of the Virginia Organization of German Students (VOGS) took place at Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School on February 26-27, 2010. The theme of the convention was “Einigkeit” or unity.

The event was organized by the co-presidents of the German Club, Kelsie Taylor 10 and Logan Ferrell 11, and their sponsor, Frau Dawn Grois.

Twenty three high schools and middle schools from across Virginia participated in a variety of workshops and competitions, such as the Battle of the Brains and forensics. Most of the twenty-five workshops were conducted by MLWGS students, teachers, and parents.

In addition to the 250 + students and teachers, eleven Governor's School alumni attended the Saturday session: Chris Highley, 97, Arrus Farmer 99, Jackie Kruszewski, 02, Philip O’Brien 02, Adam Snodgrass '02, Melissa (Edwards) Hogarty 03, Gisela Hornberger 03, Amy Weiss 03, Steven Bailey ’08, Matthew Gizzi 09, and David Reed 09.
